Case study

Global Cisco-to-Juniper WAN migration across five countries

Migrating an international company’s network from Cisco to Juniper in the UAE, Singapore, the UK, Sweden and the US, with an MPLS VPNv4 (MP-BGP) design and IPsec VPNs.

The challenge

The client’s international sites ran on ageing Cisco equipment and the business had standardised on Juniper. The network had to move platform without long outages, and the WAN needed proper segmentation between business units and services.

What I did

  • Migrated the network from Cisco to Juniper across sites in the UAE, Singapore, the UK, Sweden and the US.
  • Designed MPLS VPNv4 (MP-BGP) with custom route distinguishers, route targets and VRF segmentation for the global WAN.
  • Built IPsec site-to-site and remote-access VPNs to connect branches to central data centers.
  • Produced network documentation and Visio diagrams and took part in DR drills.
  • Worked with vendor and carrier partners on critical issues.

Outcome

  • A single-vendor WAN across five countries, migrated site by site.
  • Clean VRF segmentation for business units and services.
  • Documented, tested disaster-recovery procedures.
